|Turtle Foundation gives transportation subsidy for students from northern Boa Vista
The Turtle Foundation, an international turtle protection institution that has operated on the island of Boa Vista since last June, will pay for the transportation of 13 students who must travel every day from the northern region of the island to attend class at the high school in the town of Sal Rei. Each student will receive 1,500 escudos per month throughout the rest of the 2008/2009 school year.
The transportation subsidy for the students from the north of Boa Vista is part of a social program the Turtle Foundation has been developing with villages in the Boa Vista countryside located near the coasts where turtles lay their eggs.
In early March, the sea turtle protection organization will repair the Bufareira kindergarten alongside other partners. The school will be entirely remodeled and will be fitted with a restroom and new furnishings.
These social activities in the villages and settlements of northern Boa Vista are intended to encourage the local population to become involved in the defense of the various species of sea turtles that frequent the island.
