These are the pictures from late September 2009:
My understanding is that this is only half of the structure, once they have finished this section they will build the other half on the current works site. It is also rumoured that they will be building a new taller hotel next to the exisiting Riu Karamboa and then they will start a new Riu at Santa Monica.

Rumours, rumours, rumours!
John, I presume most of the people on the flight were going to the Riu Karamboa! Many families? I suppose kids back at school ( or should be!) now! Sporting types ( windsurfers/kitesurfers)? Pisscats?
How can the planning authorities allow such development ( if truth in rumours!) on an island still so lacking in infrastructure?
Any news on what's it called, the Irish 9 star resort? The one with the marinas and private jet-hire?

Andre,
no sign of any family's at all, but yes almost the whole plane was going to the Riu. Sadly the vast majority of people on the flight were totally clueless about Boa Vista, and indeed on the return flight it was apparent that many of them had never even left the hotel.
With regard to the 18 star luxury resort to be built by the little green people from Ireland including expansive golf courses and infinity pools, the mere mention of it caused confusion and laughter in equal measure.
Regards,
John |

People who go there just want to escape the bad weather at home and don't want to spend all day and all night flying to the Caribbean and back then have a huge time zone difference to get used to.
They would like to see something interesting - but if there's nothing special to draw them out - they'll just sit on the beach.
Will these people see the island - no.
Will they spoil it - no, but the people who come to work at the hotels could well do so.
A 'Captain Hooks Restaurant' - collect the customers by boat from the hotel if the sea conditions allow - use a bus if not (pirate style bus - hard seats would be part of the adventure), and so on.
Are there any hills someone could put a ski slope on for example (not very boa-vista, but it might get people off the loungers)
It would be interesting to see what theme the hotels will have, ClubHotels, Classic or Palace |

Many investors/ property purchasers waiting for the completion of their properties must be asking themselves:
" If the RIU LUCACAO can go up so quickly, and it is such a large development, WHY is my development taking so long?!!"
It does look stunning on a stunning beach. Expect Riu Lucacao to become a well known destination in future decades. The Riu Karamboa put Boa Vista on the map, the Riu Lucacao will cement Boa Vista as an internationally renowned tourist destination!
Sadly the beach will never be the same again!

Visited the Riu Touareg site Lucacao Beach today. Had a good snoop around. Rooms will be stunning! Luxury suites with sea-views are awesome, especially those on top floor! Palm trees aready in place many areas, the recent rains should have done them good! It is like a town!
Knowing the RIU, although there is still a lot to do before May, they will complete!

This is the latest announcement from the Riu group regarding the opening of the Riu Touareg on Lacacao Beach:
| Quote: | Last week the Spanish hotel group Riu Hotel and Resorts announced that they have set May 6th as the day for opening their new hotel on the Cape Verdean island of Boavista.
The Riu Touareg will be the 5th Riu gotel in the country and will be a frontline, 24 hour all inclusive hotel.
In this hotel the group have decided to depart from their usual model and will be separating the resort in three distinct sections - An Adult Section, Families and Children and the Classic section. The group have explained this philosophy like this.
In the area for adults the guests can enjoy certain exclusive services such as having a restaurant and swimming only for adults.
The Family area will have exclusive swimming pools and play areas as well as group activities tailored for families. |

The existing hotels on Boa Vista are obviously Karamboa, and as most probably don't know, Lucas Calema, previously Dunas Beach Hotel in the centre of Sal Rei.
Anyone aware how Lucas Calema being marketed, or is it partly being used for management from the Riu Karamboa?

The Luca hotels are family owned - if you like - a hobby for Carmen and Luis Riu-Guell and are not seen by Tui as strategic (I would be very surprised to see 'World of Tui' on the hotel name boards).
You cannot earn Riu Class Loyalty points for stays at these hotels. |
