Festival goers have begun arriving in the town of Sal Rei, while émigrés and tourists are circulating in greater numbers on the streets of Boa Vista’s main town in anticipation of the 21st edition of the Praia d’Cruz festival, which will bring together artists of various different genres this weekend. Opening the festival this Friday is local talent Chone de Bei, who will be followed by fellow Boa Vista artists Unissom and Sal’s Tecla 2. Kim Alves will then take the stage, accompanied by his brother Tó Alves and pop singer Heavy H. Congolese zouk singer Kaysha and his band will follow, and Iran Costa will close the first evening of the festival.

On the second and last day of the festival, the group Mazurka will open, followed by Nancy Vieira, an artist whose family roots lie on the island of Boa Vista and who will sing at the Praia d’Cruz festival for the first time. Vieira will be followed by Ferro Gaita, Phillipe Monteiro and a trio of Netherlands-based Cape Verdean artists: Splash, Kino Cabral and Zé Delgado.

This years Praia d'Cruz festival has been a great success with local artists performing alongside some of the best musicians from the rest of Cape Verde. The local police reported that the weekend was mostly peaceful with very few problems.

The festival was certailnly very loud with one local resident saying "I thought the festival was outside my bedroom door, in fact I live 6 streets away".
