The Old Customs House in Sal-Rei, is being transformed into a new cultural centre for Boa Vista. The Ministry of Culture has answered the repeated requests from the islands artisits who have long wanted to have an area for cultural expression.

The Boa Vista House of Culture shall come into operation at the beginning of 2009, assured the Kriolidade Minister Manuel Veiga. The works for the restoration of the building, situated near the Port in Sal Rei, are already in progress The inner part is almost restored and work has now commenced on the exterior, the sidewalk is to have special stones to decorate the entrance.

The many artisit from all over the island of Boa Vista will then have a place to express their own art and exhibit their work.

The building, which was closed for many years, will be a monument to the preservation of the History and culture. At the same time, stressed Manuel Veiga, the House of Culture will serve as a centre for training, where children and young people may have classes in music and arts.

A beautiful building, a great location, I was wondering when it would be restored. If the colonial building on the square which has been restored as the Public Library, is anything to go by, then it will do a lot in beautifying this prominent location. Such developments can only be encouraged!

excellent news, was blown away by the art forms I saw in Sal. Sign of the pride and the way Bao Vista wishes to preserves its Boa Vistaness.

The mew music school on Boa Vista Star completed its first year on Tuesday 19th January. To commemorate the anniversary many activities were held on Friday 22, in the Municipal Library in Sal Rei. The party started at 17:00 hours to the sound of the piano and guitar performed by students of the school.

The school started a year ago with courses in guitar, violin, ukulele, piano and accordion for people of different ages. But now classes are available only by guitar and piano.

The institution was created to encourage children and young people to develop their skills in music and awaken people's interest in art. It is the place to discover new talent, so as to give fresh impetus to cultural of Boa Vista.

The creation of a municipal band of Boa Vista is the next step that the students, who have already been trained in the school, want to organise.
