|
|
During the month of August more than 2,000 tourists visited the island of Boa Vista - a total of 1,996 foreigners traveled through Boa Vista’s Rabil International Airport alone in direct flights from abroad. It is estimated that an additional 1,000 tourists made their way to Boa Vista by way of connecting flights from other islands. The figure is significantly higher than that registered in July, when slightly more than 1,000 foreigners disembarked from direct flights to the island.
A total of 2,006 passengers (10 Cape Verdeans and 1,996 foreigners) disembarked at Rabil International Airport on direct flights arriving from abroad in August. A total of 1,736 tourists came from Italy (from which 3 to 4 flights arrive every week), while 270 came from Portugal (with one flight a week).
Of those who arrived on flights from Italy, 1,720 were foreigners, while seven held Cape Verdean passports. A total of 267 tourists arrived on the flights from Portugal, as opposed to just three Cape Verdeans.
The number of foreigners arriving directly at Boa Vista’s airport could have been higher were it not for three flights that were redirected to Sal’s Amílcar Cabral International Airport due to the poor climactic conditions experienced over the past several days in Cape Verde.
Boa Vista’s airport is expected to receive between eight and nine flights per week beginning in November, following the opening of the Riu Karamboa Hotel.

More than double the number of foreign visitors overnight, this is significant + can be seen as probably the launch of tourists visiting the island. I would be interested to know what impact this has had on the turnover of local businesses. Any contributions?

Dear Andre,
We have notice a significant drop in the amount of supplies availables in Boas Compras and the Bakery. Whether this is due to more tourists or not I can't tell but it makes sense to us.

Interesting, so you say supplies have dropped, it is a case of the available stocks being taken up, the appropriate businesses have as yet not increased their stock levels/output! This must be their next move!
Tell Nieldo from me, he must now work 25 hours a day, he cannot sleep, he must sort his staff out, he must bake more rolls, he must learn to bake pies, sausage rolls, custard slices, doughnuts etc etc ie become a proper baker. As the monopoly, using his brain, he is in an enviable position. However it entails management, not him slaving away. The businesses in Sal Rei face a challenge, .... it is called adapt or die! Some will float, some will ride the crest of the wave,.... others will sink and die!
It is time to stand up and be counted guys! You are entering exciting times! Good Luck.
